Chapter 7

Principles for a Subjective Science of Health

The fundamental challenge—and reward—of practicing the subjective science of mind-body health is that the rules we follow are our own, and we can discover them ourselves. Unfortunately, advice about using consciousness for change is often cluttered with unnecessary requirements, burdensome edicts, and useless folderol. The seven principles of consciousness detailed in this chapter are stripped of unnecessary additions and limitations, and could be reduced to only one main rule: you get what you concentrate upon. This is reflected in the many scientific studies that reveal the powerful influence of belief and expectation upon health.

The seven principles that shape the deliberate use of consciousness are drawn from the core concepts of metaphysical teachings—the examination of the reality behind physical reality. Scientists can offer no help in this area, not having progressed past their consternation at the idea of discussing "mind power" seriously. Scientific research substantiates each principle of consciousness, although information from modern psychics provides a far clearer picture than can be discovered by deciphering quantum physics or extrapolating the findings of medical and demographic studies.

The seven principles are:

Scientific studies show definite health benefits come from being grounded in the optimistic, constructive, and meaningful interpretation of life that is the basis of the principles of consciousness. Each of us can benefit from finding  personally meaningful and practical ways of interpreting the seven principles, which provide the foundation for practicing the mind-body approach to health.
